Second Chance German Shepherd Rescue Houston Adoption Application

Please note that submission of this form does not guarantee approval or that you will be able to adopt a specific dog. Before you begin, please note that Second Chance Shepherds does not adopt to homes without adequate fencing, unless you live in an apartment. We also do not adopt to homes with invisible or barbed wire fences. Your fence must meet standards that will not allow your GSD to escape, or be harmed in any way. It is also our policy not to adopt to homes that have an unaltered pet, unless there is a valid medical reason as to why they are not.

Once your application has been successfully submitted, a volunteer will begin calling your vet and personal references. Please give your vet prior authorization to release your records to Second Chance Shepherds. Also, please be sure to list all vets your pets have visited in the last 5 years. It is generally a good idea to let your personal references know about your application with us as well and to expect a phone call.

After your reference checks have been completed, a report is given to our Application Coordinator, who will then assign a volunteer to set up your home visit. A home visit is required to adopt one of our GSDs. All family members and residents of your home must be present during the home visit. Home visits will be arranged for a time that is convenient for both the adoptive family and the volunteer. After the home visit is complete, your reference checks & home visit will be reviewed. If you are not approved, based on our adoption standards, a decline will be sent via email with an explanation as to why. If you are approved, you will receive an email explaining what to expect next.

Our dogs are placed in their forever homes based on what we feel is a good match for all parties involved. We want to do everything we can to insure that this will be the dog's forever home and that the adoptive family is very happy with their new family member. If you have any questions during the application process, please send an email to info@secondchanceshepherds.org

Thank you for applying!
